Kitchener-Waterloo MOLD INSPECTIONS AND ASSESSMENTS

Not all consultants, or all companies are the same. Our technicians are certified in environmental management & assessment, and have the experience to verify if mold growth is actually present on surfaces, or if mold could be negatively impacting your indoor air quality. At the same time we complete a walkthrough and document potential issues.

Our reports not only provide you with a 3rd party lab analysis document, but we also provide you with a comprehensive written interpretation of those results.

Our reports also include recommendations and a scope of work for situations when mold removal is required.

Kitchener-Waterloo MOLD REMOVAL CLEARANCE TESTING

If you have decided to tackle your own mold cleanup project, or if you would like to know if the contractor that you hired successfully completed your project, then having clearance air testing done is highly recommended.

Clearance air sampling will let you know if your mold removal project was done right. It will also provide you with proper paperwork, that could be crucial if you are dealing with tenants, employees, or a potential sale of a property that may give rise to legal implications.

Clearance mold testing can also help us verify if previously tested areas remain or are back to acceptable conditions, or if they have been cross-contaminated by ongoing mold remediation related work.

MOLD CONTAMINATION AND TYPES OF SAMPLING

Health Canada considers mold growth in residential and public buildings to be a potential health hazard, as people living or working in buildings with chronic dampness and mold are more likely to suffer from symptoms such as eyes, nose and throat irritation, coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath or other allergy like reactions.

According to Health Canada, some people are quite sensitive to mold, while others will not react at all. Therefore, Health Canada recommends that any mold that is found indoors be properly removed, regardless of the mold species found to be growing in the building.

Health Canada also notes that there is no amount of mold that can be considered safe when found in indoor environments. As such, Health Canada States that: "In the absence of exposure limits, results from tests for the presence of fungi in air cannot be used to assess risks to the health of building occupants". This means that in the presence of persons with allergic sensitizations or those with a higher susceptibility, such as newborns, people suffering from respiratory or immune system issues, or the elderly, fungi spores that are found in the indoor air, when different from outdoor levels, have to be considered a potential health hazard that may require proper cleaning.

TYPES OF MOLD TESTING

AIR SAMPLING

Used For:

  • Determining indoor spore levels in relation to indoor air quality;
  • Determining the possible presence of a potential hidden mold problem;
  • Determining the potential presence of cross-contamination of spaces close to contaminated areas;
  • Determining cleanliness of specific areas in relation to outdoors or non-suspect areas for scope of work drafting;
  • Determining project completeness following the removal/remediation of areas that suffered from mold contamination;

SURFACE SAMPLING

Used For:

  • Verifying whether suspect microbial contamination is actual mold growth or not;
  • Checking the cleanliness of open surfaces and contents in relation to mold contamination;
  • Determine the potential presence and severity of potential moisture issues based on species of mold present;

RAPID MICROBIAL SWAB TESTING

Used For:

  • Verifying the potential presence of any organic matter on surfaces;
  • Checking the cleanliness of open surfaces and contents in relation to all types of organic matter (i.e. skin cells, bacteria, dust containing soil particles, and potential mold);

Not Used For:

  • Verifying the presence of non-visible mold contamination on surfaces. This is due to the fact that any organic matter (i.e. skin cells, bacteria, dust containing soil particles, and potential mold) that may be present on surfaces will cause the swab test to indicate a positive result;
